It is a two-year term and we hold 10 Board meetings per year on the first Monday of the month (barring Holiday Mondays). THA is an umbrella organization designed to represent the interests of all its members, so why not put your name forward to serve your Association in the broader context. NEWS FROM THE GRAPEVINENext year, 2009, is the 175th Anniversary of the Inauguration of Toronto - March 6, 1834. That is when the Town of York became the City of Toronto. Let’s celebrate! Any ideas? Thurs. March 20 from 7pm to9pm - The City of Toronto Archives and the Friends of the Archives of Ontario are presenting a lecture by Dave Meslin and Pleasance Crawford. Landscape historian Pleasance Crawford will take us through the history of one of Toronto’s oldest parks. Dave Meslin, municipal activist and co-founder of Spacing Magazine will provide a look at how we use and abuse our visual environment. Admission is free, however you must pre-register at

Sat & Sun. March 22 & 23 from 10am to noon, an Egg decorating workshop for ages 8 & up at Mackenzie House, 82 Bond St. Non-traditional methods like decoupage, glittering with beads, and applying textiles will be taught. Pre-registration & payment of $15 plus GST is required.
Tuesday, March 25 at 6:30 The Riverdale Public Library, 370 Broadview Ave. The Riverdale Historical Society presents Cory and Victor Lemos of Preservation House in a program entitled ”Shoebox to Order”, an illustrated presentation on the preservation of family photos. Refreshments will be served.
Sat. March 29th from 11am till noon at the Market Gallery, 95 Front St East, 2nd floor. Storyteller Fay Williams will speak on “ One Stitch at a Time: Stories from the Spadina Garment District”. Over 100 years ago Toronto’s garment industry had its beginning on Spadina Street. An exhibit is on display from March 8 to July 15th. Admission is free but you must RSVP as seating is limited.

Sat. March 29th, 7 to 9:30pm – At Gibson House, 5172 Yonge St. Dinner and a hearty discussion about March 1850. Finally back in Canada after their exile in the USA, William Lyon Mackenzie and David Gibson piece together what happened after the failure of the 1837 Rebellion. This discussion will continue over a hearty Scots dinner and a glass of hard cider in the kitchen and dining room of the Gibson farmhouse.
