President’s Remarks - President Tony Stapells would like to remind you that on Monday, August 4th, Simcoe Day, THA will be holding a Heritage Showcase at the Tollkeeper`s Park. This park is on the north-west corner of Bathurst and Davenport Road from 10am to 5pm. At 10am, there will be a Mississauga sacred ceremony dedicating the new birch trees with drummers from the Mississagas of the New Credit. The Tollkeeper`s Cottage will also be open for viewing. Treasurer Paul Federico would like to remind you that THA insurance program is up and running and that any of our members wishing to use this for one of their events need to fill out an application-request to be authorized.

Sunday, Aug. 10th from 1 to 3 - Mackenzie House in partnership with Heritage Toronto will explore downtown while listening to stories of some of our earliest black settlers. The tour starts at St. Lawrence Market and concludes at Mackenzie House. Learn of Chloe Cooley, the enslaved women whose resistance led to the first Anti-slavery laws in 1793, and of Peggy Pompadour, a skilled cook and washerwomen, who resisted her enslavement. 416-392-6915. August 23 & 24th – The Mississaugas of the New Credit are holding their 22nd Annual Three Fires Homecoming Pow Wow and Traditional Gathering. On the Saturday and Sunday the Grand Entry is at 1pm with drumming, dancing, arts, crafts, exhibits and learning circles. The closing Ceremony is at 4pm on Sunday followed by the Traditional Feast. Bring a Lawn Chair for your comfort. DIRECTIONS- 2km. North of Hagersville, 40km. South of Hamilton, Highway 6 south, West at Haldimand 1st Line Road. Watch for signs. Sundays, Sept. 14, 21 & 28th at 5:30 – The Tollkeepers Cottage will be having neighbourhood walks and tour of the cottage led by Bruce Ferreira-Wells. The cost is $5 and tours go rain or shine. Wed. Sept.17th at 7:30 - The Photographic Historical Society of Canada meets the third Wed. of the month from Sept. to June in the Gold Room North York Memorial Hall, 5120 Yonge St at Park Home. Meetings start at 7:30. Visitors are always welcome. Christopher Schneberger of Chicago will be showing his special stereo images on Sept. 17th.
