HERITAGE SHOWCASE   

Another reminder that we have been given a day in Heritage Week to have displays in the front lobby at City Hall.  Our Heritage Showcase will take place on Friday, February 20th from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and we would appreciate hearing from you ASAP if you plan to attend.  Please contact Ann Rowan or Molly Sutherland to let us know if you will be setting up an exhibit.

UPCOMING EVENTS 

Saturday, January 24 1 p.m. to 10 p.m. - Queen Charlotte's Birthday Ball at Fort York, a day-long celebration of music, food and dance, highlighting Queen Charlotte Honours Spain - Full day $100.  For further information call 416-392-6907, ex. 221. 

Saturday, January 31 between 11 a.m. & 3 p.m. – The Riverdale Historical Association is hosting a very special event in the Parish Hall of St. Mathew’s Church at 135 First Ave.  If you have a collection (historic or otherwise) that you’d like to exhibit, book your table now – there is no charge. Saturday, February 7 from 6:30 p.m. - Heritage York is holding its 15th Annual Fundraising Dinner and Dance to raise money for the Lambton House restoration.  John Sewell will be the Guest Speaker. The event will take place at Lambton House, 4066 Old Dundas Street, with cocktails at 6:30 p.m. followed by a buffet dinner at 7:15 p.m.  There will be Raffles, Silent Auction and a Cash Bar - $35:00 per person. Wednesday, February 11 at 7:30 p.m. - the North York Historical Society will hold its Annual General Meeting at the Willowdale United Church, Friendship Room, 349 Kenneth Ave.  See a video of when Leslie Street was undeveloped and meet the current owners of the Estate House.

Wednesdays, February 11, 18, 25, & March 4 at 7 p.m. - the Tollkeeper’s Cottage Spring Lecture Series with 4 Aboriginal speakers.  The Tollkeeper’s Cottage is at the northwest corner of Davenport Road and Bathurst Street.  

February 11 - Gary Sault, Mississauga Elder and Storyteller, will be speaking on “Stories from the Past affecting the future”. 

February 18 - Carolyn King, Former New Credit Mississauga Chief, Development Officer whose topic is  “Indians 101; Who are the Aboriginal People in Canada Today?” 

February 25 - Stacey LaForme, New Credit Mississauga poet, reading from her work “Being an Indian in a non-Indian World” 

March 4 - Margaret Sault, New Credit Historian and Land Claims expert will speak on “The Toronto Purchase Land Claim – An update” 

Tickets are $15 per lecture or $50 for the series. Advance sales only.  After each lecture, the lecturer will accept questions. Tickets available Saturdays at the museum or they may be purchased from a CHP member.
