PRESIDENT’S REPORT – GOOD NEWS - Last weekend, I took a walk along the Lakeshore and spotted that the promised new Wave Bridge is under construction near the end of Bathurst St. Secondly in Saturday’s Globe there was a full page article on the late June Callwood’s Park on lands south of Fort York. The plans are evolving and should be approved shortly.

The Renaissance Society, a student history Club of St. Theresa School, Belleville has initiated a campaign to petition the Ontario Government to change the high school graduation requirements to include a mandatory Canadian History course at the grade 12 level. If you agree with this, please write them a letter at 135 Adam Street, Belleville K8N 5S1.



MEMBER’S UPCOMING EVENTS


Tuesday, March 31, 6:00 at the Riverdale Public Library, large meeting room, 370 Broadview Ave at Gerrard. Local artists will show their work and talk about the creative process. Admission is free to members & $4 for non-members.


Wednesday, April 1, 7:30, The Swansea Historical Society will have as their guest speaker George E. Jardine will talk about “Becoming Me: As I think it Happened growing-Up in West Toronto in the Mid-Twentieth Century” at the Swansea Town hall, 95 Lavinia.Visitors welcome. Light refreshments.


Wednesday, April 1, 7:30, the Weston Historical Association present Auro Canada and the Avro Arrow with guest speaker Frank Harvey at the Westminister United Hall Church Hall, 69 William Street, Weston. Mr. Harvey will discuss aircraft development and testing at Malton. Everyone is welcome and refreshments will be available after the meeting.


Tuesday, April 7 at 7pm, the City of Toronto Archives in conjunction with Toronto Public Health are pleased to present a panel discussion Summer of Sorrow: Irish Famine Immigrants in Toronto and the Typhus Emidemic of 1847. Saturday April 18 at the Tollkeeper’s Cottage at the Corner of Bathurst and Davenport, will be holding a Sweet Heritage Day which will have this year’s Maple Syrup and other things. For more info call 416-515-7546


Wednesday, April 22nd at 7:00, the New Toronto Historical Society presents Derek Boles, speaking on the Union Station at L.A,M.P. 185 Fifth Street, New Toronto.


Sunday, May 3 at 1:30, The Toronto’s First Post office presents a workshop on the long history of motherhood appreciation. Participants will create old-fashioned letters to mothers bearing emblems associated with her in the early 19th century. Traditional Simnal cake will be served. Registration is limited to 15 people. Cost: $20 or $15 for members, supplies included. To make reservation, please call 416-865-1833.
