A Heritage Matter

Heritage buildings, parklands, and streets across the entire city are increasingly defaced by advertising - most glaringly so by large billboards.  In some cases, the billboards are on property not owned by either the advertiser or company producing the billboard.  There is a great deal of information about this matter on the City’s Website. Individuals and societies are urged to make their views known to their local Councillor,to depute on June 2 to the City’s Executive Committee or  on June 4 to the City’s Planning and Growth Management Committee, urging the adoption of a strong billboard billboard bylaw.  As well, the City should be urged to enforce its own sign bylaw and put the postering people out of business for making poles and hoardings as well as buildings repositories of visual garbage.  The City has information on how to remove graffiti but doesn’t prosecute anyone making graffiti.  Imagine how Toronto would look without any graffiti, posters or billboards.
